Praise Billa!

International travels means international germs. And said germs combined with fatigue and booze has taken its toll in Prague.

Dre has been under the weather and I've been verging on it. Thus our Prague exploits have been far less raucousy and have led to more dinners at home and mellower pace.

our neighborhood landmark and supermarket
Which also makes sense given that bars in Prague close at midnight and our housing in a sleepy Letna neighborhood. The happening spot is the nearby market where we cruise the aisles for tasty adventures in eating.

dumplings!
We have been staying in an enormous apartment on the on the edge of Letna Park, current home of the metronome and former residence of an enormous Stalin statue.

The metronome is mostly a neglected relic. We walked by yesterday to find a group of skaters filming there, hundreds of pairs of shoes thrown over line and graffiti everywhere. It was a stark contrast to the otherwise idyllic park. And probably not the version of the future Czechs had in mind when it was first erected.

I edited the version in which I called this an eyesore
Yesterday we walked the length of Letna Park on our way to Prague castle.

we also bough vitamin C while we were out. we needed it.
St Vitus Cathedral appeared to be the castle grounds' most enticing feature. But I can't say for sure, as we didn't actually explore much - we arrived late and a major storm was brewing so we left quickly.

worth the walk
We took a tram to Mala Strana and hung out under an awning while the storm raged, before we conceded that it was best to head home. We stopped by a local pub for dinner and made it a movie night.

Today we walked to the Mucha Museum. On the way we passed the municipal building adorned by Mucha. Mucha and his contemporaries' handiwork is all over the city. Prague is awash in amazing arty embellishments. Thus the museum was just frosting on an already delightful cake. There is something about the abundant nature (flowers!) of the art nouveau style that makes me all weepy. Its so sumptuous and beautiful.

imagine this...everywhere!
Then we made our way across the Charles Bridge and wound our way around until we landed at a restaurant and had dinner at the river's edge. The food was spotty but the view was pure heaven.

who needs food when you have this to look at?
Then it was home for another sleepless night.

Tomorrow our plane will take us home to Amsterdam. We are both excited to settle into our new routine and I'm praying it includes a full night's sleep...

Coming soon: our visit to the Museum of Communism
